I'm always drawn to those really pretty diaries with fancy papers and designs. But then they feel too pretty to handle all the time and I end up going with plain ones for my scribbling. Do you guys use a "pretty" journal to write in, or do you go with something more mundane?

[color:#993399][b]I used to feel this way, but now I will buy fancy/pretty ones if I want to. I've learnt to value the journal writing process enough to honour it with little gifts like gorgeous journals. It makes me feel good to write in a book I can enjoy. I do write in just about anything, though, when I don't have much choice.

At the moment mine is quite plain. It's just a softcover notebook with a removable thick plastic cover. It's great, though, because I can wipe it over when it gets a bit grubby.

In the long run, I suppose it doesn't matter what you write in, so long as you've got something to write your thoughts in. Looking forward to discussion on this one. ;-)

I just use a spirial notebook...but I also have a diary on the computer that has pretty background... I like the notebook because it is more personal to handwrite my thoughts. But i love the computer one because it looks soooooooo much better and spell check is my best friend! laugh

I like to buy an art sketchbook -- because it has thicker pages -- and decorate the covers (both inside and outside) with pictures, stickers, favorite quotes, or anything else meaningful to me at the time. I also illustrate what I write (thus the thicker pages) usually with pictures glued in or stickers. I'm not too good at drawing but I have some skill with a photo editor (lol).

Oddly enough, I learned to do this when in the hospital, at an impromptu journal writing class held by one of the other patients. I find that adding pictorial content to the words expands my creativity enormously!

I have, I guess you what you would call a pretty diary/journal.

I make my own, I take composition books or other plan notebooks and decorate with fabric, lace, beads, photos and different things to make it personal.

I decorate each of my journals different. For instance, my prayer journal is decorate to reflect my perception of God answering prayer. My spiritual journal reflects my spiritual walk in decoration.

I was just thinking about this again. In a way these forums are my "public journal" because I write about how I'm exercising, what I'm eating etc. But there are times that something happens with my family and I don't necessarily want to make it public. I was really thinking about getting an actual written journal again. It would be nice to have a way to sort out those feelings, but to have it somewhere "safe" smile So I think I'll go roam on Amazon and see what they have ...

Lisa, i used to feel like that about journals, but then Flylady taught me to treat myself like a princess and to USE my pretty things.

So now even for making just lists i use lovely journals. I find gorgeous blank ones at goodwill all the time. I have one on my desk and a small one in my purse at all times, with a pretty pen too. smile

I used to have the fancy journals but now I use the spiral notebooks. They are great to keep in the car, near the bed and in the kitchen. Then I don't feel guilty if I need to tear out a sheet of paper to write on for something else.
