What have you read? Have you read any books lately that were very helpful or not helpful at all? One of my favorites is the Children's Writer's and Illustrator's Market . My copy is really worn...the information in it is awesome!

Just bought Creating Characters Kids Will Love by Elaine Marie Alpin. Has anyone here read this book yet? I will be writing a review of my own after I read it.

What books have you read that have helped you particularly in children's writing?

I just finished devouring The Complete Idiot's Guide to Publishing Children's Books (being a Newbie, I haven't yet discovered how to underline in this site). I was impressed with the organization, the wealth of websites, the real "need to know" information that Harold D. Underdown got crammed into 358 pages!

Welcome to the forum.

I agree. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Publishing Children's Books is an excellent book. I also own and highly recommend Writing Children's Books for Dummies.
In my opinion, these 2 are the place to start for anyone interested in writing for children.

They complement each other as the Dummies one covers a lot more about the writing aspects, and the Idiot's one (hate those names!!!) focuses on the publishing side a bit more. Both are chock full of great info.

BTW - what have you found most useful so far about the Harold Underdown book? Any great tips?
