I have just returned to knitting after a layoff of many years...
I find it enjoyable and relaxing..
My question is this

after I have finished a row and due to senior moment i forget where I am ...how is it bestto determine if I am on a knit row or a purl row...

I take it you are doing stocking stitch. The smooth side is the knit side. The side with the bumps is the purl side. You will do knits if the knit side is facing you, and purls if the purl side is facing you.

A knit looks like a: V

A purl looks like a bump or a little like: n
