Last night, while I was working at my part-time job in the bowling center, we watched a guy get angry at throwing a big split (4-6-7-10) in the 10th frame after having strikes in the 7th, 8th, and 9th frames. He swore loudly, quickly picked up his spare ball and lofted it about 35 feet down the lane. It bounced into the next lane where it hit the rake (sweep) and came back toward the foul line in the gutter of that lane.
I asked the Front Desk person what is done to people in cases such as these because I think the person should have immediately been talked to and warned of "86-ing". The front desk person echoed my concerns; but, said there was nothing we could do.
I plan to at least mention it to my manager when I go in to work this afternoon. I don't like that kind of behavior and at least I will have placed my comments on the record.
What do you think bowling centers should do?

We had a guy at our local centre who bowled like that, we sat gobsmacked as each ball he bowled sailed half way to the pins before landing with an almighty bang.
We got told the same when we mentioned it to the front desk, not much we can do, but they did at least ask him not to bowl like that.
Personnally I would have been over there straight away asking him to stop or telling him how to do it to stop risk of the lanes being damaged.. They of course waited until we raised it to their attention...

Another thing we have noticed lately is more and more people who walk along the approaches to look and see if there is a ball that fits them better left by previous bowlers. I had to stop and wait for one such person to move across to the next lane before I could bowl, of course I then told them to go round behind the people bowling..

I don't understand bowling center personnel not taking care of bad behavior as it happens. Too much permissiveness spoils it for other bowlers not to mention that some of the actions and behaviors of the people can be dangerous for themselves and others.

I agree, they don't need to be agressive a quiet word with people can normally sort things out..

When I worked in the bowling centers, I always tried to make friends with new bowlers by introducing myself and offering tips and assistance when they needed it. I found a greater majority of people were very receptive and appreciative of the attention I paid to them. When in large groups, I picked out the "leader of the pack" and focused my attention on him/her and after a while, they kept the group in line.

That would be good to see but the bowling centres over here or at least the local ones to us don't really have the people that could do that, it's mostly younger adults (A year or two out of school) that do most of the reception work and such at the bowling centres.

It is the same here in many cases; however, there are some really good ones in spite of the young workers. It really depends on the Managers and how they train and treat their staffs.
