Thanks for that link. What I think is cool, I put my son's firts SAT scores in as the minimum and went up in the max little by little and if he brings his scores up by 100 in both categories, the difference in the choices he has is amazing. That will be good news to him. He's very down now (his best friend's father passed this weekend) I think he could use some encouragement. Also his grades aren't really that great, because he doesn't try. Not for any other reason. I am not sure what to do with him. I guess everything will work out how it is supposed to.

Keep in mind that SAT/ACT scores are rarely the deal-maker/breaker for students when it comes to admissions. Neither are grades for that matter... unless the student has totally bottomed out in that sector. If your student is hitting mid to low range academically, he might consider starting out at a community college or entering one of the open-enrollment universities. Both types of colleges offer tremendous educational opportunities; but the admission parameters tend to be much less selective.

I checked out that link -- there are no schools in our state that would be appropriate for my ds, according to that...

Which leads me to a question. He is nearly 16, and plans on going to college f/t next year (so when he begins, he will still be 15.) I had originally thought, when I realized that this was likely, that he would just go to the local U. and live at home. But the disparity between their average SAT scores (in the 800's, math and verbal) and what he is likely to get (he took it last week, so scores aren't ready yet -- but when he took it at 12 (old format) he got 1200) -- I am wondering if I have done a disservice to him by limiting the scope of search.
