I heard that certain herbs placed in the home can act like natural deodorizers. Does anyone know whether this is true or should I find another solution to make my home smell fresh daily?

All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages.--William Shakespeare

Lemon verbana, lavender, basil, sage, rosemary are all good deodorizers for the home and make people feel relaxed and happy. I love to make a potpurri of dried herbs to set around the house, especially in the bathrooms. I keep lavender potpourri that I make myself in my bedroom.

We have a few large lavender bushes in our yard and care for them organically, so each year we harvest and dry it for all sorts of uses. It works great as a replacement for carpet freshener and isn't toxic to pets (we have a cat). Just sprinkle out some dried lavender on the carpet, let it sit for a while and then vacuum it up.

you can also use the essential oils as deoderizers. In a small little warmer use a carrier oil like almond oil and put a few drops of the essntial oil. We use this at work (we use cassia and orange blossom) and people love it because it works and it's not a perfume or thing that tends to bother peoples senses.

I love using Deer Tongue. It's a plant that grows along the ditches and in the woodlands in the Southeast. It's a leafy plant, but I don't know the scientific name. It also has to be picked at a certain time of year for the leaves to retain their light musk scent when dried.

I'm extremely scent/chemical sensitive, and the deer tongue is faint, but noticeable, very pleasant and relaxing. It works great in the car. If you find some to buy, be sure to open the bag and sniff it carefully. If there is any "green" smell, it was probably picked too soon and the fragrance will not last.

I have one supplier I always buy from at the Pow-Wow, so that might be a good source for buying it.

You can use:
1.Spray rose water.
2Simmer a pot of water mixed with any combination of spices such as ginger, cinnamon, allspice, orange peel or even vanilla extract
3.To keep drains, sinks clear dilute cup of baking soda in enough boiling water to make a solution, pour down drain. then follow with a cup of neat vinegar

A nice fragrance can be created by taking an orange and poking whole cloves all around the outside. You can use lemons for variation too.
