Hello - I never wrote on this site but I am a huge anglophile... so I am happy to be here...

Anyway, I want to know what everyone thinks of tea - my husband will only drink PG Tips! We were only able to get this in England, then we found them in Bermuda, and now it is slowly coming to the US.

Does anyone else drink PG Tips tea???

I haven't tried that brand. Can you get it online?

I usually drink Stash tea. They have so many great flavors and the tea is always fresh.

I love the tradition of drinking tea in the afternoon. I've never lived in England but my family is of British descent so maybe that's why I love my afternoon tea.

I use to go to a tea room over in Eastern Washington where they sold PG Tips on the shelf, but I never purchased any.. However! You may want to see if there are any tea rooms in our area as they may carry it.

It has now come to Wegmans, I just came from there and bought my husband his special tea. I like it - it is very, very strong.

My Granny used to drink PG Tips.

I like Tetley and have recently tried a store brand sold at our local Superstore: President's Choice Pekoe. Pretty good.

Sources for PG Tips: check out my list of English shopping from abroad sources here

Good luck smile

Hey BC,
We buy PG Tips at World Market. Also I think I've seen it at Giant Eagle.
My personal favorite is Whittard's (English Breakfast). I always stock up when I travel, though I guess they are starting to open shops here in the US as well.

Do you put milk in your PG Tips?
I share a teabag w/my husband since this is so strong - just pouring the water over it and taking it out right away is strong enough for me!!

I don't use milk in PG Tips (although lots of sweetener). I use milk every now and then in my English Breakfast tea, but usually not unless I'm in England.

Me too! I was raised on the stuff, only with a small twist. Sugar, definitely. My great grandmother (from England) used to put Carnation evaporated milk in her tea--the unsweetened kind. It is so much better than milk, it gives the tea more body and takes what can be a bitter edge off certain teas. Anyway, its a tradition that's been handed down through the years and whenever someone is over and they say they don't care for tea, we make them a cup my great grandmother's way and they end up loving it. I have a feeling it got started when they were too poor to buy regular milk and bought the canned type instead. smile

I heard a rumor somewhere that Whittard is supposed to open a few stores in the US. I can only hope that's true (and that one will be near me)!!!

Ahh.. we don't have Wegman's here. But I'll have to remember that for the next time we're traveling east.

We just got PG Tips here a few years ago! We had to go to England or Bermuda, but then they came to an Irish Teahouse, then Wegmans, then a few supermarkets.
Harringtons is also at Wegmans.

On a side note, I love white chocolate Fingers, and we could only get milk/dark chocolate ones here; sometimes they had the white but they were mixed in, never the full box.
Tea and chocolate....I miss England..... and of course, the lovely accents and politeness.

I meant to say Yorkshire has come to Wegmanns, not Harringtons.

Ah, so you're not deprived of good tea after all laugh

And you definitely can't beat tea and biscuits.
I love white chocolate too - yum! grin

I'm an English gal from Oxford. I still drink my tea. For years my mother would send it to me from England ( I've been here 37 years , I'm in California) I finally found P.G. tips at world market along with a few other favourite things like McVittie's biscuits mince pies at Xmas and many different candies I grew up on. I also recently have found it at a northern CA supermarket named "Savemart" although they charge a little more than World market ( Its here in my local area). They also carry Ambrosia Rice and custard which I love too and chocolate whole wheat digestive biscuits, world market also carry these items. I am a tea "nut" I cannot give it up. When I first came to the States I bought Lipton, then I favoured Red Rose brand. I have also tried and liked for a little less money Tetley's British blend tea, and its so good, if I were blind folded I would be hard pressed to tell the difference between that and P.G. Tips, thats how good and strong it is.

I keep PG Tips at work and Red Rose at home, along with my Whittard English Breakfast of course! I love World Market's food section.

I'm very lucky in that there's a wonderful store in the Dallas area called "The British Emporium" which is about 10 minutes from my house. They have every English tea imaginable and all kinds of English foods and treats. It's great to go there at Christmas time and see all the puddings, mince pies, Cadbury candy, etc. I always have a selection of teas on hand from there.

My husband and I found PG Tips last year at a market near us. We both love it. He also found Jelly Babies, which he adores. You can't find them everywhere but more markets have "international" sections. I also remember years ago drinking Twinings orange pekoe but am having a hard time finding it now. I loved that stuff.

My husband was weaned on pg tips, we get it brought over to us when anyone comes from the UK. It's very strong, he likes the whole bag to himself and squeezed with plenty of milk.

Ugh.

Earl Grey is my favourite with milk, and Green Tea with honey umm.

I love Lady grey, but my Fav is Rose Pouchong, which is AMAZING! I always used to drink coffee, but I had a serious operation 10 years ago and when I came around I wanted tea!! Been drinking it ever since!
I have my tea with milk and sugar, and Shortbread bikkies!
I hear Tesco are going to the US; so it should be easier to get tea such as PG and Twinings etc pretty soon. smile

I like Lady Grey, but can't stand Earl Grey - is the difference just the citrus? Would I like Earl Grey with lemon?

I never put milk in my tea until I spent time in UK - now I drink it with milk when I'm there, but not at home. Weird, yeah? And my coffee HAS to be loaded with milk/sweetner.

Tbunny,
The difference is possibly the Bergamont. Lady Grey has Seville orange and lemon with bergamont, and Earl Grey has Bergamont orange.
I would think the Earl grey is more noticable in the taste of Bergamont.
I have to say, when I do drink coffee it has to have milk and two sugars! Tell you what tho, coffee (Not tea, its awful!! sick) made with all milk is gooooooooood, as is coffee with evaporated milk yum yum!

Web Address is: www.twinings.com
