Recovery makes us understand that we are and never were bad people. We were only sick people and now we are trying to get well. We may find that we can do things successfully that we never thought we could do and that we do have an innate goodness that we discover by being of service. We are all connected in some way. We have all been at a low point in our life, but its important to encourage and not enable people around us who may need guidance. Being a true friend is medicine all on its own.

Thanks, Kriss. You are so right. The issue many of us had, though, while in our disease was that we could not recognize the friendships and the people who loved us but enjoyed those who enabled us more. The wonderful part of recovery is that now when we hit a low point in our lives, we can act like "normal" people and call not only on new friends for help but those who stuck with us in our times of trouble knowing we will be there for them also.
