My parents did a volunteer vacation in Guatemala with a group offering medical and dental services there. It was a wonderful experience for them and they plan to take another such trip this coming year.

Your group sounds like a good way to volunteer.

Seems as though volunteering or volunteer vacations are the best new thing...

It's a great way to take a holiday and put something back into society or the planet. Too often when we travel we take rather than give. Even when we spend money, it doesn't go into the local economy but into the pockets of multinationals - straight out of the country. At least volunteering with a local project means something of value will stay behind...
