This month, the compact disc turns 25.

Will it make it to 30? What about even 27?

I remember the hype, the buzz. It would be better than buttered bread. A whole new sound, a freedom to our music. No more hiss and pop of the 33 (I MISS THAT SOUND) no more of that electronic buzz of the 8-track when it changed in the middle of the song (I THINK I STILL HAVE A COUPLE) and the constant clicking of the wheels of a cassette ( UM . . . MY HUSBAND STILL HAS SUCH A PLAYER IN HIS SEMI).

It was a musical revolution.

No it wasnt. It was like a wig to wear until your hair gets longer, or better yet, it was like hair extensions. There thats more modern. Today with MP3s and iTunes, it now seems like the CD was a technology appetizer.

Heres something fun:

What was the first commercial CD to be released?

There is a debate about the first ever pressed CD. What two CDs are both reported to hold this honor?

What was the best selling CD of 2006?

1st CD - ABBA "The Visitors", don't know the other one.

I'm guessing on the 2006 - toss up between Nickelback and pussycat Dolls

Ooo, I can't wait to find out the answers to those questions.

I acquired my first CD - Sting's The Dream of the Blue Turtles" at the age of 19. I was a few years behind the learning curve on CDs, but my collection has grown exponentially since then! Thanks for this cool factoid!

I am one of the rare person who still buys CDs. I had at least a thousand when I lost my things in a fire (the insurance man still do not believe me because in his mind nobody has cds anymore). I do not download and I do not see myself starting it one day. When I want to listen to a song I do not have on a CD I go on YouTube.

By the way I also miss the sound records made smile.
