I'm 54 years old, raised in the UK and have lived in the US since 1984. I have always worn stockings, never pantyhose. That's how I grew up as a girl then a woman in the UK. Most of my colleagues at work are in their 20s and 30s. I have had the oddest of looks lately. OK...I assume that once in a while I have "flashed" my stocking tops at work. But the young woman have given me very strange looks. Am I being paranoid or do you think that they think that a 54 year old wearer of stockings is strange in this day and age?

For some reason, stockings seem to have a whole bunch of social baggage attached to them in the US. I find them to be much more comfortable and convenient. I buy multiple pairs at once and when I get a run, I just toss the one damaged stocking and eventually I'll get another run in a different matching stocking and need the spare. I don't worry about what other people think about stockings - unless it's my fiance and he's a fan. I wouldn't worry about it.

I say be yourself! Although I wear pantyhose much more than stockings, I have worn them in the past and still do now on occasion. Don't worry about the looks you may get from others. I get strange looks myself from time to time when I wear pantyhose. The younger generation just doesn't seem to get it. I am 36 years old and I would never dream of not wearing pantyhose or even stockings to work.

Personally, I'm 21 and haven't worn a form of pantyhose/stocking since my 7th Christmas. I wear black leggings on occasion; alone or paired with a skirt.

It could be age related, but I'm a firm believer in personal style. If you're happy, GO FOR IT!

As I was growing up, I had to wear hose everytime I wore a skirt or a dress, I had to wear them to church or to work.

NOW, I live in Orlando and I don't even wear socks, I wear sandals most of the time and I also have a couple pairs of shoes that are slip on with the open backs.

When I went to Texas for a visit at Christmas 2005, I had to stop and buy some suitable shoes and some socks, I showed up in sandals and there was snow and ice on the ground.

I never want a job again where I have to dress up like that.

I have read that panty hose can encourage some female problems, I think it was a yeast infection, in that respect I think stockings would probably be better for you.

I know when I was growing up, when the weather was cold, I wore tights, I used to match my hose or tights to what I was wearing, I NEVER wore nude hose.

Sharon - Maybe they are just jealous of how great your legs look! I wouldn't worry about the 20 or 30 year olds - they don't know what is good for them yet. LOL Just kidding. I am in my early 40's and find that the older I get, the less I care about what people think of what I am wearing. If it is comfortable and I think I look good, I am wearing it! It's a right of passage after you are 40. (that's my opinion anyway)

Women are awful especially in groups and more especially when any competition is involved!

I hope the woman who started this thread did not let that group of women intimidate her in any way!
