Hi there,

I was just posting on the forums at www.justsitting.net/theteahouse.htm

I haven't been meditating for long, and this site provides some good resources that have helped me a lot.

There was a guy on there talking about taking refuge vows and trying to marry that up with his own practice which he felt was currently lacking.

I wasn't exactly sure what refuge vows were, but sympathised with him about sometimes findings it diffcult to meditate and then apply that practice to 'good living' day-to-day.

Does anyone have any thoughts on applying your practice at work, with friends, etc. What do you do when it doesn't work out?

And what are the refuge vows anyway?

Thanks,

Linda.

hello both...

Susan, how kind of you to respond so warmly.
Linda, for more information on the refuge vows, I'd be happy to help if you like.
It's not a constrictive ceremony. In fact, many people wishing to respond to a Buddhist calling, take these vows quietly, in the privacy of their own home.

Hello all,

I was just more curious about the refuge vows, rather than wanting to act directly in that direction at the moment I'd just never heard of it before.

What really interests me at the moment is the application of meditation practice and its benefits to my everyday life - redution of stress, more space to think, etc.

Dear MettaMaid,

Although I am not so interested in Refuge Vows at the moment, the person on www.justsitting.net forums was very interested. Maybe your offer of advice and assistance could extend to him?

Thank you Linda. I have joined and have dropped him a private note. I don't wish to intrude upon him, unless he invites it, you understand, so I'll await his comment!
Thank you for showing me a new website, it's lovely!

Thanks MettaMaid, I'm sure he will appreciate it. The JustSitting site is lovely isn't it!

Have you seen that they have a shop as well (in the links on the left)! I ordered from them last week and got my equipment already - it's equally lovely!
