A dear friend of mine lost her baby today. She was 8mos pregnant. She's from the US, married to a Brit, lives outside of London. I'm wondering what the British custom would be in this circumstance (here in the US, we would usually hold a funeral, even if just for immediate family). I know in general UK funeral customs are a bit different from US. Does anyone know how they (UK) would usually handle this situation? Or more specifically, should I start making travel arrangements?

I'm soo sorry for you all. I know it's too late to offer any real help, but I do hope it all went ok.

Usually we have funerals for at least a service depending on the parents wishes.

Thanks, Juniper. They did have a small service, but I ended up not going over for it. Here we would have sent flowers to the funeral home, but my friend insisted that we not send them because they would have gone straight to the cemetery.

I did travel a couple weeks later to help her (when her DH went back to work) and visit once she was back on her feet.
