There has been a lot of debate as to whether this is Godzilla or a remake of "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms". Oddly enough I read somewhere that when the crapfest Godzilla (1998) was re-released on DVD in 2001, the Director's Cut was re-named "The Return of the Beast From 20,000 Fathoms" to make all the Godzilla fans happy. I have not been able to physically confirm that information so the jury is still out. There is also the question of licensing rights as Sony/Columbia/Tri-Star does not have the rights to 20,000 Fathoms as far as I know right now.
There are some strong ties to "20,000 Fathoms" including the man shouting "It's Alive!", but there is one distinct problem - it was a Warner Bros. Production and celebrated a 50th anniversary re-release on DVD. Im not confident that Warner would let Paramount re-make a classic such as "Fathoms". For example, some may have seen the trailer for 10,000 B.C.. This is another B/W classic film that while being re-made, is staying in the Warner studios library.
The Slusho site has the most clues pointing to Godzilla.
The number six could refer to the 6th of August, 1945 when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima which apparently started the whole Godzilla problem in the first place ie.
Man screws with nature and nature gives man monsters. Noriko Yoshida is known as the Little Whale Gojira means Gorilla Whale. She was a water scientist who disappeared while on the ocean the original Zilla had a fishing vessel gone missing and later an oceanographer who creates the Oxygen Destroyer to kill the Big G.
Zilla was in a frozen state of the coast of Japan until the bomb wakes him up Slusho is also in a frozen state.
I dont know, Ill bet a dollar that this is a new Godzilla before 20,000 Fathoms.
