In Australia vinegar and baking soda is very popular too. Let's face it 100 years ago the ladies of the household didn't have the supermarket shelves to pick the products from so ofcourse they used natural things as well.

The best natural cleaner available is Quick n Brite. I use it all over my home to clean everything. It is non-toxic and biodegradable. It's a concentrated all-purpose cleaner that is safe around children and pets. The best part about it though, is how well it cleans. I use it to remove stains that no other cleaner can touch, but it is safe for almost any surface or cleaning job. Go ahead and check out Quick n Brite for yourself.

quick n brite isnt really natural. It has some ingredients, incouding preservatives, that will harm humans and the environment, even if it is "biodegradable".

Has anyone heard of a cleaning product called Mrs. Myers? It's at the container store (not sure where else). It looks pretty good and natural but I haven't tried it yet. Has anyone used it?

I just noticed the original post...

We have a bleach free home. Bleach is toxic. So is ammonia. These are really bad and am not sure why they're being listed as alternatives to mainstream cleaners when they're toxic.

As for what I use, I like Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Soap diluted in a spray bottle along with some store-bought sprays by Seventh Generation and other natural brands.

Here's info on chlorine in household cleansers:

While in line at the grocery, I let a lady go ahead of me, because I had many items and she had only about 20 boxes of Corn Starch....I asked her what she was going to do with all that corn starch. She said she was a professional window cleaner and it was the best thing she'd ever found to make the windows sparkle.

Here's how: Just dilute a little bit in a bucket and make a solution. Take a clean terry cloth and dip into solution, wipe over mirror or window. Then take a clean/dry terry cloth and wipe excess. Turn cloth to dry side and polish off.....you'll see it sparkle and never buy that blue or green stuff again. Or use smelly vinegar!!!

Have fun! LOL

With the ingredients Borax,Soda Crystals,White Vinegar and Bicarb, you can clean just about anything in the home and garden. It's just magic and so much cheaper than the pollutant vareties.
