We did a bit of everything -- staying in wondferful little B&Bs, lodges in Abel Tasman, an apartment in Napier and an assortment of hotels in the cities. We kayaked a lot, hiked, followed food and wine routes, participated in the Art Deco festival, shopped at farmers markets, went to hot springs. There is so much diversity, as you say, that it's hard think of it as one trip. It was like a dozen little trips in totally different places.
