I generally make my own spindles, but decided I wanted a purpleheart spindle (I love the colour!); it had to be a top-whorl, and have a shaft long enough to roll on my thigh. And I wanted it yesterday, of course!
Surprisingly this was a tough order - most top whorl spindles on the market at the moment have very short shafts, and after I had eliminated the few spindle-makers who didn't answer my emails about postage costs (sad, as they had lovely spindles) I finally settled on a deep-cup one from Spinners Choice. It was a bit heavier (I thought) than what I originally wanted , but.........
I LOVE IT!
It spins sooo nicely, perfectly balanced and just what I needed!
This has been a very big deal to me. I'm pretty much house-bound these days, and make most of my spinning and weaving tools, so to have this beautiful spindle that not only spins so well, but looks good, and is sooooo nice to touch, is exciting. It now has pride of place along with my other special spindles, so my next project has to be a spindle stand!
