I personally do not subscribe to this opinion.
I think anything recited with good, honourable and sincere intention, will do its work... If it comes from the heart, it can't fail to do good.
Just be mindful of your present moment when you recite. That's all.

Yes I think that intention is extremely important in all things and if the intention is strong results will follow; however I also try to get the pronunciation as correct as possible as these are ancient words of power & I believe they will not be fully activated unless they are pronounced clearly.

As we are not speakers of Sanskrit we simply have to do our best. I know that I used a mantra & then heard Thomas Ashley Farrand chant it differently- it still worked in the desired way for me- but who's to say whether it may have worked more quickly or more strongly if I'd got it spot on?

Thank you Das- Rama (Rah-mah) is a good, basic healing mantra & it is hard to get muddled with this one wink

No. Intentions have nothing to do with recitation. It must be correct or it gives no results. Look at any formula of chemistry or mathematics. Put one addition more or less and it goes bust.

Ram is to be pronounced as- calm.
It is supposed to be the greatest mantra for this yuga.
I speak a lot about mantras with Mr. Mohatta who sold me some websites. He told me that if you recite- Shri Ram,Shri Ram,Shri Ram,Om.
after every recitation of your mala, your mistakes are forgiven.
But one has to learn exact pronounciation. Pl. recollect what I said about Physics and Chemistry.

Thanks Das, but I'm afraid i don't subscribe to this point of view.
The Lord's prayer was originally in hebrew.... does this mean that if we recite a translation, or pronounce the original hebrew incorrectly, God wouldn't hear our prayer?

I don't think he cares, one way or the other... as long as we're praying...

Same with mantras. Providing the effort is there to be as accurate as possible, if we make a mistake, there's no problem.
Chemistry involves the use of volatile chemicals, the composition of which might make them dangerous, and the combination of which might make them lethal.
Well-intentioned Spiritual mantra recitation cannot be compared to this.

I think CDMohatta is very intense and well-meaning, but I would suggest that at times, he might be misguided, and not always correct, with the greatest of respect.

I agree here with Alexandra. We can only do our level best to be accurate- and different books give different pronunciation guides! There's an issue with converting Sanskrit to our alphabet and rendering it comprehensible to our western ears.

I am aware that there are some special and powerful mantras that are potentially dangerous in the wrong hands- just like a complex spell might be- or as you say a chemistry experiment. However the mantras we have covered here are well and truly tried, tested and safe.

I think it would be a shame for people to be so scared of getting the wrong pronunciation that they didn't use mantra at all. If anyone is concerned about the pronunciation debate here I suggest getting hold of Thomas Ashley-Farrand's CDs so that you can learn to chant along with him. He really breaks down the mantra syllable by syllable so it is very easy to follow.

If you pray, you can it in any manner you wish. If you recite mantra, you have to do it the right way. Pl. consult an authority on this.

Das, thank you for being so emphatic, I sincerely appreciate your devotion to the topic....
As it happens, I have consulted several "Authorities" on this.... Two Lamas, (one in the UK, one in France), three different meditation teachers, and three separate Authors....and they too, cannot come to an agreement....! So in the end, I have had to choose whichever I found sat best with me.

I have made my point.

Thanks. smile

Baba said that mere letters do not make a mantra. A story was recited by him about a village. In that village marriages were getting broken soon. Some village elders consulted a learned person who found out that the village pundits were reciting mantras wrongly. Once that was corrected, everything was OK.

I can only add- Do what you wish. But as you are a very sincere sadhaka, please recite- Shri Ram, Shri Ram, Shri Ram, Om at the end of your mantra recitation.

I do not believe in any arguments and wish you the best. Your sincerity makes me emphasize this. within a month you will find much better results with your mantra.
