I can't remember the book that clearly since I read a library copy back in February, and now that copy is out of my hands. But I remember some paragraphs at the very end of the book where there is a crowd scene and I think it's the dancing "girl" who bumps into several people along with her friend, and then the author sends a narrative thread far into the future with each of several of those crowd characters: just a brief sentence. I remember someone was pinched on the backside 14 times in that crowd scene and suddenly you hear that she ended up getting older, moving away from Istanbul, getting married, ending up in completely different country, having several children, and remembering Istanbul on her deathbed decades later. All in one sentence. It was very striking!
