Genre fiction gets no accolades, except from avid readers, fans By Carole Goldberg, The Hartford Courant.

Who, or what, do you write for? Would you be upset if you never won a literary prize, but your fans sent you tons of mail and bought all your books? Would you be happy to settle for a prestigious prize and a small token cheque, but know that your royalty payouts barely cover a few month's supply of paper?

I'd rather get my book out there for the fans to enjoy! Aside from making the money, don't we really write for giving other people a great reading experience?

I've found that many of the "great" books that the critics love, aren't really something a lot of people want to read.

I would like to be considered a good writer tho. I've read some very well-known, best selling writers and I can't even finish a book they wrote because, to me, the writing isn't that good! I just can't get around bad writing, altho these writers certainly do have their fans.

Elle~
I write for what hits home with me as a mom or nurse or person. I write for the emotional and WTH that is not fair impact. I write for the forgotten, the emotional aspect people maynot consider as part of the story/problem.

I am not here for money, or prizes or even recognition as a specific writer. I am here for someone to say, "Wow I never thought of it that way!" or "all these years my thinking was warped and I have been wrong about this" or the "my god how have we let this happen, and lets do something and make the world better b/c this is not acceptable".

I do this for me and no one else. I do it not expecting to get paid or make a living so "no one owns" me. Finally, I do not need any prize, award or recognition, if somewhere someones life may have been changed for the better because I was willing to say can you believe this is happeningin our world today.

I write to prevent one, just one child from having to grow up questioning if she even esists. Questioning everything about herself. Trying to find herself and seeing only stark cold seething darkness inside, until she was in her thirties and broke free of the abusive relationships that held her spirit in darkness and solitude.

I write to learn who I am. I am creating me as I write. The story has only just begun. I do not need any prize, for in the end I will have found my soul and that is the greatest award/gift I could ever be given.

I write because it is fun. I may never get a novel published but that will never stop me from writing.

Of course the ultimate goal is to be published, but it is still fun to come up with story ideas, character names and plots and then putting them on paper.

Someday I hope to be published so I can write for the enjoyment of others, but for now, I am happy writing for the enjoyment of myself.

Neither. I write for myself. Of course I have never written a book but if I do one day think of others when writing I can guarantee it will never be for critics.
