Lordsaveme, you are so far wrong about this, that I'm not even going to bother responding to what you are saying.
I know - I know for a fact - that you are not Buddhist.
I know - I know for a fact - who you actually are.
I know - I know for a fact - that what you are posting is to try to goad me into saying something retaliatory, but on all counts,

I'm afraid you fail.

With metta,
as always.

We are working on a project to develop the Buddhist places in India. In that connection, I visit India very frequently with my friends. I have spoken to many Tibetans in India and see the pain whenever I speak of Tibet with them.

Please tell me-

How does spreading Buddhism help these Tibetans? Dalai Lama goes around the west. His duty lies in India with his followers. He should make every effort and make them return to Tibet, they love so much.

Many youngsters I met have never seen Tibet. They are all waiting. The older Tibetans cry when they think of their homes they left years ago. It is agony.

The moment they go back to Tibet, what on earth do you think will happen to them?

When the Chinese are still holding Tibetan Monks, nuns and civilians prisoners, and torturing them:
When the Chinese are still sterilizing Tibetan women and girls by force, to prevent them bearing Tibetan children:
When Chinese-run schools encourage children to bring small creatures to school and kill them in the name of science:
When chinese still ridicule Tibetans by mock trials in villages and compel their own family members and friends to beat them, or worse, execute them:

WHY ON EARTH DO YOU THINK THE DALAI LAMA WOULD NOT ENCOURAGE HIS PEOPLE TO GO BACK HOME?

whilst China still bears such animosity towards an entirely peaceful nation, and they treat Tibetans in this way, of course they won't go back.
Of course they want to, but they canot, under the current regime, in all honesty, even think of going back.

Leave India. Go to tibet. See for yourself.
Wear a Liberty bracelet. Openly carry a picture of HH the Dalai Lama. Speak out against the Chinese and cry 'Long Live Tibet' in Lhasa, infront of the Potala palace.

See what happens to you then.

I was going to ask that too....if they go back, what are they going back to. Will they have homes, schools, farms to feed people, an economy, a government, will the prisoners that are still after 50 years be released as well? What about all the temples that were destroyed. Will China help them rebuild? We in America have too much of our own homeland to rebuild, we can't afford to help them unless the american people as a whole not the government help in some way. I am sure there are many Buddhist if they can afford it and have the means will support the Tibetans. HH can't just snap his fingers and make all right, they shouldn't just settle for anything. Moving thousands and thousands of people back to abosolutelly nothing is a bit stupid in my opinion. I think he is doing the best he can with what he has in front of him. I know it wouldn't be pleasant being sent to say Mexico as a refugee from my land but If I had nothing to go back to, wouldn't it make sense to stay where I am despite how bad it is. The Indian government provides bare necessities which is better then nothing.

There is truth on both the sides. I consider Dalai Lama as a very good man. But a very big failure as a leader.

A leader who can not take care of his followers is no good. Why do followers of Tibetan Buddhism do not listen to any criticism of Dalai Lama? They can criticize Christianity without any thought but it hurts them when anybody speaks against Dalai Lama. That is double standard. if they call others a fanatics then they are also fanatics.

No amount of argument can change the fact that-

Dalai Lama has failed miserably in settling with the Chinese.
Being a leader he should understand the political realities and settle the issue. He is not doing that. Ifyou can not criticise Dalai Lama then you also can not criticise George Bush.

Jennete, Chinese only have one problem. They do not want Dalai Lama.

Tell me, in your opinion, should the Tibetans settle for ever in India as refugees? Or should every concession should be made so that they return? I welcome your opinion.

Jennete, please also think, who is a good leader? Who finds ways or who finds excuses?

I am asking you because you have a very open mind and are ready to talk. You are not fanatically defending Dalai Lama without worrying about the fate of the 100,000 tibetans. you are a person of compassion and can understand the pains of others. That is why i would like to talk to you if you wish.

Kim, you have raised a very important question. What is the solution to the torture being faced by Tibetans in India. They are physically very happy in India but only physical safety is not enough for living. One needs one's home, ones people, ones own motherland. Israel and Palestine are fighting precisely for that.

When I see Tibetans on the roads of most of the Indian cities selling woolen clothes during winter, some thoughts come to my mind.

They will never own a shop.
They will sleep on the road side of their makeshift shop.
They have no place to cook.
They have nothing as home.
There they have their beautiful country that they want to go back to. But they can not go. How to make it safe for them to go.
1. Why should we insist that they go and shout slogans against China in Tibet. That is not allowed in most of the countries of the world, most of the middle east and others.
2. Consider Tibet as part of china. the whole world has done so and no govt. is aking China to vacate Tibet. No govt. is making any effort in that direction.
3. If China does not want Dalai Lama, let him stay back.

There has to be a give and take. Leader of Tibetans should make all the efforts to make it easy for his followers to go back. There is no use denying the socio political realities.

I will give you an example. Mahatma Gandhi never wanted India to be divided. But to get freedom he accepted the division of India.
That is why he is called a great leader. Otherwise he could have continued his resistance and never got the freedom.

Dalai Lama is not being asked these questions by western media, or it would be tough for him to answer.

China is not totally beyongd pressure. west can pressurise China to be humane to the returning Tibetans. For that west has to be convinced. That needs lobbying. That has to be done by Dalai Lama.
