Did you know that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles concept was originally produced by comic book artists Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird as a fun parody of the X-Men and the graphic novel, Ronin? They liked the idea so much that they borrowed some money from relatives and self-published the comic. Six years later they struck a deal to licence TMNT merchandise, which helped to launch the brand into the mainstream and made Eastman and Laird a lot of money.
Not bad for some creative brainstorming and a bit of a laugh.
