I find it difficult to phrase this. Pl. bear with me.

When we say Alternative medicine, we consider the modern system as the METHOD. why? Why do we call the modern method developed from the days Socrates as the method and call everything else alternative?

In India, we have Ayurveda which is more than 2000 years old. There are all the texts available in Ayurveda for treatment. Why should I call that as alternative? What of Homeopathy?

In America alternative means anything outside mainstream medicine practiced by medical doctors. I think the medical community wants to keep it that way but more and more people are seeking out other treatments that work WITH the body and allow the body to heal itself without resorting to chemicals and invasive treatments.

As more research is done on so-called alternative treaments, they will become more mainstream and less "alternative."

My daughter has used acupuncture with great success for a variety of things and we always research vitamins and herbal remedies for any ailments and to keep our immune system healthy.

I think there is room for all-both mainstream and alternative, but I do believe alternative is growing and since research supports many of these treatments and techniques, then soon medical schools, etc will have to start including this information. Medical doctors could incorporate these techniques into their practices and help people to wellness rather than just treating the sickness.

I would like to see a time when medical treatments aren't even necessary because people will learn about health and wellness and won't even have illness and disease.

Most of the mainstream doctors have no faith in alternative. that is a problem.

I'm always surprised when a doctor suggests a vitamin or supplement for a health problem. My mom, sister and husband lowered their cholesterol by about 40 points using nothing more than cinnamon but didn't even bother to tell the doctor that.

It is surprising that the modern medical doctors recommend natural products. I sure hope they check out the interactions with their medicines first. If have had a few people come to me for that purpose and the doctors had recommended an herb and a prescription. They counteracted each other. I think we have to work together and do our own research to be safe.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, please advise if it's not. My girlfriend has a metallic taste in her mouth and can't figure out what it is. Anyone have any ideas?

You can get this symptom in some diseases. Better to consult a doctor.
