be like god? that's the part where most mistake god, put god in a little box and say that god is only good. i think it's bigger than that.

So you see, that's my point.....

Yes, most mortals are not sure about that at all. I agree with you.
About prayers, I reserve my comment.

Yes, so do I. As personally I do not believe in a God. But I used to. So that's how I could address your questions.

if you don't believe in god, how can you comment in a conversation on what god might look like? that is the dilemma.

its like you're saying i don't believe in a god and nobody should wonder what "god" might look like because it's useless, just pray, don't think and only believe that god is only good.

i believe it's good to ponder beyond our scope of understanding.

i am hesitant to believe that when "god" talks to other gods that god refers to self as "god".

i reject all notions that "god" only represents the positive, loving side of life. i believe that the notion of "god" incompassess all creation.

yeah i feel god is everything too. i just have to wonder sometimes.
plus the word god is iconic in and of itself. sometimes a better phrase works. i'm used to the word god so i end up using it even if i'm trying to grasp beyond that scope.

No, but as I said, I used to...and the 'what does God look like?' question arose with me too...except that it was actually my Catholic Priest who advised me to give up on an image.... he didn't buy into the statement that we were created in 'His' image, because he felt it was too much of a category thing....

Please don't take this as argument or criticism, because the written word is so easy to misconstrue when it is unaccompanied by an image or person actually speaking - but Buddhists are discouraged from pondering beyond the scope of understanding.... We deem it a waste of precious time. If you can't understand something, it's best to leave it aside. The answer may come at another time. But if it is classified as an imponderable, such as this question is, then it is a distraction from matters that might be better addressed, instead....

With warmest wishes....

A.

I'm glad you found what you were looking for in Buddhism. As for me, I found Buddhism to be welcoming to science and looking for answers. But I think that's why Buddhism is so interesting and wonderful. Many people can find what they need.

When I see the sun sinking across the ocean with the promise that it will reappear tomorrow morning, I see God. When I look at my sleeping children, I see God. When I see people around me, I see God. When I walk in a forest and a breeze moves the tips of the trees, I see God.

I think Elijah learned a valuable lesson about what God looked like when he realized that God was not in the earthquake but instead in the gentle whisper.
