Is it true that breast fed babies relate better in society?

I think that how we relate to others has more to do with personality, social skills we learn over time and our experiences in life.

I formula fed my oldest and she is extremely social. She loves people makes friends easily. She can also maintain long term friendships.

I breastfed my my middle child for the first week then supplemented with formula for the next three. He is not social. He hates being in crowds and has little interest in forming real and lasting friendships.

With my youngest she breastfed for 11 months with formula supplementation. She is like her sister, very social. She loves chatting with people and loves being around people.

I honestly do not believe that one. There are too many variables to base social skills on how one was fed.

Yes, the variables are many. But those children who are breast fed feel more secure. Don't they?

I believe an infant that is breastfed has a good chance of creating a stronger bond. That bond can lead to a child feeling secure and happy.

But it doesn't guarantee those things. Life experiences can alter feelings of security.

My youngest, the one who received the most breast milk for the longest period isn't a secure child. Social, yes but secure no. She is clingy, afraid of being alone and fears loosing us and her things. Living through and after Hurricane Katrina was a difficult experience for her.

That was just a personal example, of course. A child's parents divorcing, death of a loved one, abuse, lack of stability in the home are just some things that may toss the emotional benefits of breastfeeding right out the window.

All we can do for our children is give them our best efforts and hope for the rest.

You have explained it quite well.
