By not perching well, do you mean he is falling off the perch - or is he just spending his time on the floor or hanging on the cage bars?

hello, i mean he does all them that you mentioned. hangs on the side of cage , and looses his balance on the perch, and spends time on the floor.

It may just be that he was kept in a container without perches & hasn't figured out what they are yet. Did you get him from a breeder or a pet store? Was he in a cage with a perch when you got him? Can you put a perch down very close to the ground so he can get used to perching & not have far to fall?

hello, i got him from a breeder she told me that he is still learning to perch , but i noticed that he is balling up his foot, he is still getting around but slowly. do you think he is crippled or something wrong with his foot? he is eating real good but i have to keep his food on the bottom. he can still perch but he struggles to get on it! thanks karen

I think I'd be giving the breeder a call about this. A budgie shouldn't still be learning to perch when in a new home, and should have learned that before leaving the breeder. Is the bird weaned yet? I don't believe his foot should be balled up at all and there might be something wrong here.
