Rep. Stacey Campfield, R-Knoxville inquired about joining the states Black Legislative Caucus. When he was rebuffed because he is white, he called his treatment racist. Black Caucus members and others have since referred to him as "crazy and racist." When he proceeded to invoke the immortal words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I have a Dream" speech, he began receiving death threats.

What is your opinion? Is Campfield out there? Is the Black Caucus racist? Should we do away with race-driven associations altogether?

Would they like it if there was a white caucus? I don't think so. Campfield was probably trying to make a point, that doesn't make him racist. And what's with the death threats. That's as logical as saying "We're peaceful and we're going to kill you to prove it."

I agree. I always believed that those who suffered the most from oppression would also be the ones with the most welcoming arms for those who are different (racially, spiritually, whatever).

Another example of such (c)overt racism is the church to which Mr. Obama belongs. They are quite open about the "black over white/brown/yellow/..." attitude. I was watching the Colbert the Report the other day (yeah a great news show smile ) and he was interviewing Senator Cohen from Tennessee. He also tried to join the Black Caucus. As he said, "I explained my people were slaves were too."
