I'd like to purchase an African Grey Parrot in the future and am trying to find out as much as I can about them. Does anyone here own one?

Hi Marian.

I've got 2 Congo African Greys. One (Jewel) I purchased as a hand fed baby and the other (Caesar) came to me at about 15 yrs old.

I have articles about African Grey Parrots, Caesar and links to other African Grey sites.

The more information you can find out about these birds, the better prepared you will be to have one in your home.

Please keep in touch to let me know how your research is going.

Thanks Mavis! I've never had one before because I've lived in close proximity to other people who might object at the noises a grey can make. But now with my new house, I can make as much noise as I want without anyone complaining, LOL.

Can't wait to take a look at all the info! Thanks.

I have a friend with 2 greys. She is always telling me what noises they are imitating now! The latest one is water dripping from the faucet. Hannah is starting to imitate me, I guess I "cluck" at her a lot. Can't think of a better name for it than that. She will do that and say "c'mere". And she is so funny, she will say "step up, step up, good girl, gooood girl". She is trying to say more things all the time.

Good luck in your search for a grey. Buy the biggest cage you can afford, you will be happy that you did so later!

African Greys are not 'noisy' birds. They make a lot of sounds - talking, sound effects, etc - but not the screaming that is often associated with the larger Conures or Cockatoos.

My Caesar does have some annoying sounds - so they CAN be noisy, but generally they are not known as being noisy birds.

I once had a parakeet that made the sound of a key turning in the lock of my front door. It scared me to death, I thought someone was breaking in!!!! <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

LOL, what a smart birdie! My first bird was a parakeet. He was a great bird and we were together for 10 years. Connie
