Any of ya'll close to Tulsa Oklahoma?? A friend and I are going to get a cage for Shandy (Hannah's sister) and hoping to get some good deals on toys, food and ect! Oh, and I did ask my hubby about a canary and he said ONE little canary....LOL, had to give a solemn oath that one and only one canary would come home, and only one cage for that one canary! Wish my luck!! We are out of here tommorow morning, spending the night in Tulsa. A good friend of mine lives close to Tulsa and she is having us over for supper and we will get to meet all her birdies!

LOL Connie! Sounds like you're suffering from NEBS! (Never Enough Birds Syndrom  ) I'm the same way! We actually moved a sofa out of the room, to make way for another large cage! LOL!

LOL Jean, boy is that right! I gave him a few days to get used to the idea and he was well, ok, just ONE little canary. Last bird fair I went to I came home with a pair of ringnecks. I was in the dog house for a while! Connie

It is my turn to say "help, my bird won't eat!!". We looked and looked and looked at canaries (there were a ton) and most of them I ruled out right off the bat. I really wanted one with the beatles hair do (I think they told me those were Glosters?) but everyone that had them either had females that looked like that or they had dirty cages/sad looking birds. We finally went with a guy that didn't have very many (there were several there that had to have 50+ canaries) and he was very nice, his birds all looked happy and active and he had maybe 15 birds total with him. He gave me a waterbottle for the canary free of charge and a 6 page handout about the bird. So I felt confindent that I had made a good choice. We are currently quaranteening out little guy. He hasn't said anything at all since he left Tulsa! I bought him a really nice long cage and he flew back and forth like crazy when I put him in it. I was thinking he will be a happy little guy once he settles in. The handout said to feed fruits and veggies and breads so I felt like I bought from a good breeder.

I did get Hannah the cutest toy. It is made out of pvc pipe and you put adding machine paper on it and the lady selling those had a bunch of too babies for sale and her babies were on a stand and had several of those toys and they were shredding paper like crazy, it looked like a big party over there!

Sorry for such a long post! There were tons of toys and not so many birds. I heard the "if you can feed a baby you can hand feed a parrot baby" spiel more than I cared to. That was my only gripe about the fair. I have larangytus now and am sick. My friend froze me out of the motel room and the pickup! Next year I will have to wear more clothes! She is planning on going again so I guess I better start saving money for buying one of everything!! Connie

I forgot to say I met Mattie Sue Athan at the fair. She had 2 birds that she had rescued and worked with and she was looking to find good homes for these birds (only to people who qualified). One was a Goffin's Too and it was allergic to wood! So it had to go to someone that would promise to provide correctly for the bird. The other was a Millitary Macaw and that poor bird had been kept in a teeny cage and had hung from the top of the cage with it's feet up behind it (kinda hard to explain) so that it wouldn't tear up it's tail. She said it had a hard time getting used to perching right. She was very nice and she even autographed a copy of her new book (Parrots) and I purchased a copy of The Second-Hand Parrot and she autographed that one also. She was a very nice lady!! She lives in the Tulsa area. Connie

Connie, it sounds like you had a WONDERFUL time! I'm so glad! And I'm sure your new fid will settle right in once he's over the stress of the trip.
I really admire the people who do rescue birds. I'm really soft-hearted, and would LOVE to do that myself, but don't feel I have enough experience yet. It's sure not a job for the faint of heart!

Yeah we had a great time! We even got lost for 2 hours trying to find our motel when we arrived at Tulsa and as we left Tulsa my friend says "lets go again next year". I just laughed and laughed because we were so stressed over being lost!
