I have been told by BBE to take a break from this forum because my views have obviously upset the fundamentalists posting here! Not ALL Christians are fundamentalists and many think that OT authors view of God portrays one who is unpleasant to say the least. Isn't free speech permitted here?

This disturbs me. Whatever happened to free speech?!

Are people who don't believe in the Bible's interpretations of God not permitted to give the reasons why they disagree?

Perhaps some of our arguments have been a little too close to the bone and convincing, - and hard to disprove by those who claim the Bible to be the word of God and therefore infallible?!

What's the good of a discussion or debate if everyone agrees?

Anyone for coffee?

The reason Jenna asked for you to seize and desist is that you continue the same arguement over and over and over - its getting boring...... Come up with a new argument. You think that in the old testament God is cruel and unjust -- got it -- can we move on to a different topic please.

Carennedy, you have addressed this to me, but did you mean it to be for Loveapple? Jenna's post was not addressed to me.

Patience.

I wanted to post in the Cruxifiction post but for some reason, I have no reply button.

I wanted to say that I view the Crucifiction (I'm having spelling doubts here) as man's inhumanity to man. God ordered Jesus to die but I do not believe he said how. That was left to free will to decide. Crucifiction is a Jewish punishment as well.

I mean, we all die. Some suffering horribly. You could equally ask where was God in those cases too. Or where he is during mass starvation in Africa.

I know this is not the Buddhist forum, but the Buddhist answer to this is that it is man's ignorance that has humankind see dying, even suffering, as bad things. Perhaps if you reframe it as not a bad thing, then your analysis will change. I can even apply the ignorance concept to Catholic things. It could be less a case of God not being omnibenevolent and more a case of our minds not understanding the big picture of Creation.

I do believe God is omnibenevolent, but I do not derive my meaning from him via text but in my heart. Anyway, just some food for thought.

I think the BBE editor has a right to do what she wants with her forum if she feels it's getting out of hand. And I think she deeply wants you to understand her belief that God is not cruel. I also support your right to seek answers herein. Hopefully, after a few days everyone can lay down any hurt and try to discuss reasons that better explain your perceptions to some sense of satisfaction for all. Or not discuss it. Up to her and her forum's posters to agree to disagree and move on or to try for enriched meaning behind some of the Bible's greatest mysteries.

I have had a private conversation with loveapple. I sent her a private message asking her to take a break because just about every post in several topics on this forum have expressed the same opinion.

If loveapple wants to take this public, thats her right. On this forum, I have posted a set of forum standards that every poster should read before posting here.

I don't like name calling. One of my biggest pet peeves is being called "fundie" or "fundamentalist" as if there are different types of Chrsitians. I also don't like "xians". These are derogatory terms and they really bug me. I think it's immature to put down someone just to make ourselves feel bigger or more powerful or to just start trouble. I don't tolerate this which is why I called it out. I expect it to stop.

Free Speech is appreciated, but it is practiced with compassion and respect for every poster. Loveapple has expressed her views with enthusiasm often and we are all familiar with it.

I have no problem with differing interpretations of the Bible. In fact, there is a lot to learn from others if we can open our hearts wide enough to accept everyone. This is not the first time I have addressed a poster who was upsetting others. I have even gone so far as to ask one to leave permanently. I am not afraid of confrontation, however, I like a forum that is lively and full of real people. I can spot a fake.

I've been called out before. I have been accused of encouraging hate speech, I've been attacked verbally,c alled names and I have even had threats made against myself and my family. This was a long time ago.

I took this conversation private because I thought it was small enough that it would die down with a little down time. I still think this. Let's not let this ruin the discussions here....

I have taken a break and now I am back as feisty as ever!
I don't apologise for my views on the Biblical view of god.

No one shoulder get personal about a person's beliefs or lack of them, however obnoxious they are to some! I am sorry you have been the victim of verbal attacks and threats, that really is not on!
