I saw something really interesting on Ebay the other day. Someone was selling handspun Himalayan cat hair yarn. I think it was plied. It was a beautiful shade of ivory
(one skein) and there was also a quantity of dyed cat hair yarn. Any comments on this, fellow spinners? Anybody else out there tried this? If so, what were your results? Anything we should be aware of?

I have some Himalayan cat hair a friend collected for me that i intend to blend with some wool i have.(40% cat hair60% wool).I am wanting to blend it only because i don't have enough to get much out of it on its own(the cat is now deceased). I don't anticipate any problems spinning it as i have found spinning any hair requires a little more twist and light tension. Usually when i blend wool with anything i spin it like i would spin wool normally.

I have heard that cat hair can felt as you look at it, but the undercoat from my longhairs is sooo soft. I am blending malemute, mohair and Romney (as a binder) at the moment - with a sprinkling of cat hair as my fibre-loving felines roll in the dog hair. The Malemute is very soft, with long soft guard hairs that I am leaving in and making a feature of the yarn (its not for a garment) to match the long black guard hairs from the cat. I am at the carding/blending stage, using old mismatched carders as I don't think it would be very easy to clean my drum carder, and as I go, the dog hair is vanishing into the mohair and it feels wonderful! I haven't attempted to wash or dye the dog hair in case it felts but I am hoping that when I dye the finished yarn, the different fibres will take up colour at a different rate and give me a heathery look to it.

There is no such thing as too much fibre, just not enough storage space.

That fiber mixture sounds great.
