I have recently purchased my first two female finches and one is picking on the other and has plucked the feathers around the neck of the other.

I have separated them for now but what should I do for a more suitable arrangement? Any suggestions and advise would be appreciated.

What kind of finches do you have Kerrie?
Are you sure that one has been plucking the other or could it be that one has plucked herself around the neck. It is not unusual for a bird to pull some of its own feathers if thinking about nesting.

I have 3 parakeets and when they were first settling in with each other there was a bit of feather-pulling going on as they figured out who was 'boss' of the flock. But they're really mellower now, and don't do that any more ... maybe it just will take time for them to get used to each other. I always start the new bird out in a separate cage, and then let them get used to each other, so I think that really helps.

hmm I have 11 zebra finch and the only feather pulling I've had is when I had all the males and females in one cage and not set up for nesting, the males bullied and plucked the females til I had to seperate the females to a different cage, no problems now..
