I am looking at doing a cetlic knot applique quilt with 12x12 squares and bias binding for the design on top. I was wondering as I have never worked with bias binding before if it is going to be tricky going around the curves, and if anyone had any advice or techniques they could share.

Thanks in advance.

I haven't done this myself but I have seen it done. There are some good books out there, and if you live near a good quilt shop you should go in and ask the proprieter or one of the ladies working there, they should be very helpful.

Meanwhile, I know it is not difficult, it just takes patience. You can hand-applique it but you could also fix steam-a-seam to the back side of the bias tape and then iron the thing down and machine applique it. That is what I would do but just because I don't have the patiense for hand applique - I've tried and the project is still sitting in a bag.

Good luck!

Your Celtic work should not be difficult. When I made several blocks, I believe that I drew the design onto the background cloth with pencil, for a placement guide. I used sequin pins to pin both edges of the bias tape. I also did not run the entire bias under one that was placed over it. I trimmed, and started again, to lessen the bulk.

I have several good books on how to do Celtic knotwork, and how to design it. I remember that it was a lot of fun, but haven't done anything like that recently. I did find the (Dritz brand?) bias tape maker to be an invaluable resource.

Good luck!

Celtic quilts are amazing, make sure when you make your bias strips that they are well pressed. I use the metal strips to press mine . I also cut the fabric on the bias and had no problem at all getting the tape around curves. It is all in the pressing, i did mine with steam iron. Hope this helps and good luck, you will be very happy with the quilt when it is finished. Take care
