Along with my hair falling out..I've noticed that it gets very oily within a few hours of washing it. Is that because my hair has thinned and I notice the oil more? And if so, what is a great remedy for getting rid of oily hair? Certain shampoos don't seem to work and it's really bothering me. I have to wash my hair twice a day if I want to go out in the evening.

It sounds as though your body chemistry is going through some changes. Here is an article with some suggestions in dealing with oily hair. Greasy Hair

Is it only your hair? do you also find your facial skin getting oily faster? Generally both should happen together.

Well..my skin feels a bit oily mid-day. I could be in peri-menopause, too. And I think my iron levels are low and that could cause hair loss. I rarely ate meat.

The thing is...I see a lot of re-growth at the roots. So, my hair is growing. What I need to know is that that the strands will get thicker as my diet improves..I know it takes time. But I used to have thicker strands. So, I'm hoping as my diet improves, my hair grows in thicker and I won't produce do much oil.

No. Your strands will not grow thicker. You may lose the oiliness after sometime. You should take a multivitamin with minerals to supplement for zinc and iron.

So..you're saying my hair will never get thicker? It used to be. My strands used to be much thicker than the current ones..even if my diet and stress levels improve?

If the change in texture is from a health problem or lack of vitamins, the strands may become thicker in texture when health is restored. However, they may not. It may be a change in your body that will be permanent. The best thing to do is to deal with it as it is and go on with life.
Someday you may be surprised by better quality hair!

Take supplements regularly. Tell me, What made your hair fall in the first place? if you can give some background, I can suggest something.

It could be a few things. I'm still not sure of the real culprit. I have noticed it ceasing a bit (the fall out).. Not as much. I've been under stress and I was not eating properly. For a good long while. I lost over 35 pounds in one year..due to not eating much. Especially protein. But..I did dye my hair twice within 6 weeks. I went dark to darker. No blonde color or bleach. My stylist didn't seem too concerned about it..but I do wonder if that didn't accerlate my hair loss. It's just much thinner than it used to be. I have no bald spots. My hair is NOT coming out in clumps. I just noticed drastic thinning and it's lifeless..hair that I've seen on other women who don't eat well. I've really increased my caloires and am eating much better than I used to. I see lots of re-growth and am just hoping as my diet improves the thickness of my hair will improve. I've heard olive oil is good??

A friend of mine is a hair dresser and I told her that I noticed my hair would get very oily no matter how many times I washed it, it was just always oily. She told me that the more you wash your hair, actually the more oily it gets. Washing your hair strips your hair of the natural oils and by continuously washing it your hair tends to produce MORE and MORE oil, leaving your hair extra oily. LOL.. that came out a little more confusing than how she explained it to me. And apparently shampoos from grocery stores, drug stores etc have more wax that are put into the shampoo which also makes your hair very oily. If you want shampoo with less wax buy from a salon (it's more expensive, but you also use less of it because you should be washing your hair less, and only use a dime sized amount of shampoo) I was told to wash my hair with shampoo 2-3 times a week, and for the rest of the week when I shower just to rinse my hair very well with hot water(as hot as you can stand it) which helps get rid of the wax build up. I noticed a wonderful change in my hair after about 2 weeks. I don't know if that's what your problem is, but that's what I was told, so I tried it and it worked! Good luck to you <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
