I just need to vent to someone. My entire life has just collapsed. I really don't know how to handle it. Would anyone be willing to lend an ear?

Agreed - I have seen lots of support here from everyone for the most part ~ usually there is someone who may have gone through something similar and can relate, whatever it is! Is there a friend you can vent to?
Someone who knows that your vents aren't to be taken personal. If you have nobody who wouldn't mind, do something with your energy. Beat on a pillow, curse towards it, kick a ball, throw something made out of rubber around the house...

Or vent here, we are here to listen to you.

I'm new to this, but I really am feeling helpless. Myself I've been fighting depression all my life, can't remember many happy times in my life.Mental illness runs in our family.Now that I know what the problem is and have gotten medication for it I am learning to live with it.The problem now is my youngest daughter,she has been treated for scitzophrenia,she has suffered many set backs due to the fact that she gets these ideas that she doesn't need her medication.She just turned 21 this last November she is old enough to get into the bars and has been doing a lot of drinking which brings on what we've come to call [her episodes]I'm really afraid for her.Is there anything I can do to help her ?? Its really hard to get someone in for mental help if they refuse to go. They have to either hurt you or someone else befor you can have them commited. Those laws really need to change. Anyhow thanks for letting me vent.

getting counseling for yourself can help, im glad your on meds to help with your own depression, your daughter is going to do as she wishes, my daughter is 38yrs old and dealing with her own mental health issues i can relate to you being afraid for your daughter,lord knows its not easy, my heart goes out to you, talking helps, good luck

Let me know what state you're in and I will be happy to research through our own mental health resources to find out what I can if you would like. I have observed with this age group that sometimes a wake up call may include having to go through the system with an 'episode'. State facility's policies for committment usually include 1)being a danger to yourself or others and 2)having a psychiatric diagnosis or substance abuse problems. I have had some patients have a change for the better after seeing videos of themselves that family had taped while acting out, high or whatever. I am sorry you are having to experience this. I have seen how hard and emotionally taxing it can be for the family. It is important for you to keep up with having support for YOU too! So take care of yourself. 'hug'
