Some women do it from poverty -only for money.
Some women enjoy it and the money. They wreck many homes and families.but both the man and woman are to blame not the prostitute alone.
its just impossible to ban prostuition or bring out legalities against it.
its just the way some people are.men and women.

but there is one thing that the govts can do.help the poor and protect the insecure ones so that they dont have to sell their bodies unwillingly.

Given that prostitution has been practised for thousands of years, and is still common, Governments should legalise it. That way, there would be protection for women, and a service provided for those who want/need it, by those who can offer it, regardless of reason.
If women are forced into prostitution, by making it an officially Government-controlled activity, they could at least gain some kind of protection.
Instead women are abused and forced into a practise that is condemned and criticised by those in authority, but who have themselves occasionally been found enjoying the pleasures of such services! Hypocrites!!

Engee,

Prostitution is illegal in my country and is prosecuted but it's not easy to catch someone doing it so many continue to offer this service.

You said that there is something governments can do...what is that thing?

If only it were that simple...the reasons people are 'poor' or resort to Prostitution are legion...sometimes it is povery. Unfortunately, in far too many cases, it's drug addiction. Few resort to prostitution to feed their families or fund their way through college.... The complexities involved are so many, that it would be difficult to know just where to start....

I agree with Alexandra. In the U.S. there are programs for the low income to aid with food, jobs, medical, housing and other necessities.
