Howdy folks!
I've recently been getting into the kniting looms! I'm finding I really like using them considering I never mastered the art of learning to knit with nedles. I noticed that there are alot of patterns out ther for them!
Some are free & some I bought.
Does anyone else use these looms?

Hi,

This is something I hadn't seen before and I'll look into it. Thanks for posting about knitting looms, because knitting machines are expensive and someone who doesn't have the space and/or funds to accommodate a knitting machine would be able to use one of these.

I've been looking at them for a while now, I've seen some beautiful patterns. What is your favorite pattern?

One thing I've wondered is - do you have to look at what you are doing? I can knit while watching TV with only a few glances at my work or pattern most of the time, but I'm afraid that the looms would require my looking at my work like I have to with embroidery and thus would cut into my embroidery time.

I have been loom knitting for about 2 years now. They are portable, and there are many different kinds of looms. Just like anything once you have the hang of it you do not have to look all the time. We have blind knitters who do the looms by feel and they do a very nice job on the looms.

I have long looms, short looms, sock looms, round looms (from huge to small), oval looms, ones that are double rakes and ones that are single, oh and thumb looms to go with my mitten looms. Some are adjustable, some have removeable pegs, others have pegs that slide to adjust. They are lots of fun. The double rakes are turning out to be one of my favorite kind. I like the double knit piece you can get. That double thickness is so warm.

One problem is one loom adds to wanting another loom, and another. Thus my collection includes extra large gauge, large, regular, small, fine and extra fine.

As for a favorite pattern, I make up my own as I go so there really isn't a favorite in my mind. If you have questions, ask me. It's what I do on groups. I try in my little way to help and sometimes it works. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I'm finding that the more I use the looms, the more I like them!
Right now my favorite pattern is one from the Provo Craft site for the loopy boa scarf.
You can you mix and match yarns for wonderful looks and you can also make them very quickly! Something that I just love!!
I also bought a mitten loom set and the pattern seems very easy. Another plus!

I am working on some fingerless mittens with fur around the cuff. I think that since I want partial fingers, I will just crochet those. They don't take long to do but I didn't like how my first one came out so I frogged it, and have started over. I am using a 17 peg large gauged loom from an online vendors. I like the nylon pegs and MDF fiberboard base it has. It is easy to use.

If you have the double rake (board looms), keep an eye out at http://www.knittingboard.com They have been putting up free patterns for board knitting. The lastest is an afghan with a graph design in it.

Most recently they have had a nice sweater coat, a poncho, and a scarf up. They plan to keep rotating the patterns on the site. After about a week or so those same patterns go up for sale, and a new free one becomes available.

I now have two sweater coat patterns from them and recently purchased the yarn to do at least one, maybe both of them. I just need to finish some other projects first.

I haven't tried that boa scarf, though I did get the pattern for it. I mostly make up my own patterns and the things I have done are mostly hats, scarves (regular and hooded), and baby ghans. Oh I have done a couple of mittens, full ones and a baby bunting. That bunting was fun. It was double raked for the body, the flaps were needle knitted, and the edging crocheted.

Hello! I am new to your group and seen your post. Did you buy your looms yet? I LOVE to loom knit. There is just so much you can do with them (I myself have done sweaters, rugs, purses, hats, slippers, and more.) I have some of the stuff that I have done on my blog if you'd like to see them.
