Here's a good one for both the colleges and urban legends crowd.

Grade Expectations
College regulations generally specify that a student whose roommate commits suicide automatically receive a 4.0 grade point average for the current school term.

This Urban Legend also known as the "Suicide Rule" however if the roommate dies from murder, fatal illness or accidentally you may still qualify. According to the Urban Legend each school has their own set of rules.

Here are some of the rules that some schools have:

You must be present when the death occurs and if you are not you only get a 3.5 for the semester.

The death must occur in the dorm room. If this is the case the surviving student can either take the 4.0 or get first pick in next dorm room lottery.

The death must occur in the last six weeks of the semester.

If you murder your roommate the you do not qualify for the 4.0

One Urban Legend says that during a final exam a student killed himself and to console the students that were present the were automatically given an A on their final.

I have to admit that my favorite rule of the above is "If you murder your roommate the you do not qualify for the 4.0"

The first thought that comes to mind is no you do not get a 4.0 you get a life sentence.

There was a movie made about this!

From IMDB:

[color:"red"]Dead Man on Campus (1998)
Two college roommates go out and party, resulting in bad grades. They learn of the "if your roommate dies, you get an A" clause, and decide to find someone who is "on the verge" so to speak to move in with them. Two students, one, a slacker, and the other, a student on scholarship, find out in their college's charter that if your roomate commits suicide, you get straight As for your grief. They then go looking for the perfect roomate when the student on scholarship starts[/color]

Now my notes - except that the roomie they choose is like this complete psycho that is driving them crazy, and they're scared he's gonna kill them or something. It was pretty funny if I remember it correctly. Dumb, but funny. <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue2.gif" alt="" />

I have been to the point that the A didn't matter, I just wanted away from my roommate.
