Does child modelling set a child up to dress with more make-up and in a more adult fashion - and in a way to "attract people"? Is this a bad situation for a child to be in?

I think the case of the 6 year old beauty queen who was murdered is a prime example of the risk taken in making an underage child mimic adult makeup, dress and posing.

On the other hand, I think dressing a child up with costuming and makeup for a dance recital that is age appropriate and not mimicking adults in any way is okay.

I suppose that's exactly the image I had in mind, Susan; she looked like an 18 yr old in those photos.

I agree with you completely. For a dance recital it's different - if you don't have make-up on when you're on stage under those lights, your face washes out and you can't see any details at all. So you look like you have no face. So it's got a real function there.

Parents used to not let kids wear make-up until they were 16 (i.e. a "real dating age") but that seems to have really changed, now you see girls that are 8 or 9 with make-up ...

There's also a difference between modeling and pageants.

Jordan (my 9 yr old) does modeling, but what she is generally doing is modelling clothing that kids her age would wear. That is the whole purpose of advertising.

and yes she wears makeup for the photo-shoots, but she knows this is only done for those occasions, and it is done so that she does not look washed out on camera. Her finished image looks very natural, and I have pointed this out to her. Once again, advertisers don't want the kids looking like Jr. Dolly Partons - because that is not going to sell the clothing or other products that they are trying to promote.

The same goes for Michael and Seth- they also wear makeup on camera, but obviously it doesn't show in the end product.
