As I try and learn more everyday about Wicca I've read there are different things we can do to say protect our homes from negative people, or even how to rid our homes of negative feelings and spirits.
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what I could do to protect my young children from the same, or even to just keep them safe from others who would have negative intentions or would seek to harm them?
This has been on my mind alot. About 3 weeks ago my next door neighbors 5 year old son was sexually molested by a boy a few years older who lives down our block. This happened while the younger boy was over at the older ones home playing. This weekend was our County's annual Fair. As a young girl was coming out of one of the restrooms at the Fair 2 men tried to grab her and kidnap her. Her father was able to save her from the kidnapper. We were just at the Fair the night before. <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
I know I won't learn if I don't ask so any advice anyone would be willing to give me on what to do would be so appreciated.

I don't know anything about the wicca stuff but I do know that as a parent you just keep an eye on your children the best that you can. I think it is impossible to keep all harm from them, I don't know what wicca teaches you, but I'm sure you will find this out. Just be the best mom you know how to be, that's all you can do.
Do you wiccians put spells on people?

Do you wiccians put spells on people? Simply put, No. As a general rule we find it inappropriate to do anything that would manipulate another person or interfere with free will.

The most important thing you can do to protect your children is educate them in a way that makes them aware but does not instill them with fear. Teach them what to do in the face of inappropriate behavior or potential danger. Awareness goes a long way.
As far as magical protection... You, as the parent are responsible for their care and safety, so I would say you can do the same for them as you would for yourself.

Asking the Gods/Goddesses for a blessing never hurts either. But the best protection for any child is always vigilance. Blessed Be.
To learn is to live, follow your path, trust your faith and be true to yourself.

I ask for angels to watch over my kids when I'm away- I don't think they'd interfere with any events that were meant to happen- but it makes me feel better about leaving them!

All parents of every faith wish for protection for their children. That's pretty universal.
I was raised with a lot of knowledge, taught to think and figure stuff out. I wasn't taught to operate from a position of fear and reaction. I think that was one of the best things my parents did for me.

The best protection you can give your child is education. There are many books out there that will help you street smart your child.
Giving them more and more freedom within their comfort levels will give them confidence to deal with a situation if it comes up.
My son's Hap ki do class has provided him a number of wonderful lessions on bully proofing, street smarts, and self defense.
Keep talking and listening. Every morning before my son goes off to school I ask him a question, "What do you do if someone asks you to help them look for their pet? .... What do you do if an adult asks you for directions?..." and other questions to equip him with responses and tools if he every needs them.
It's kinda like the time my dad told me what to do if the gas peddle on the car stuck. Well it stuck, my mom freaked out in the other seat and I calmly did exactly what my dad told me to do. I knew what to do, I had confidence that I could do it, and I did it.
I also always pray to God that he would send an angel to surround them and protect them.
