On Friday afternoon, Australia again lost one of it's iconic people

Race driver Peter Brock was killed when the car he was driving in the Targa West rally (in Western Australia) slid off the road and hit a tree.

His family have accepted the offer of a state funeral.

Hi Megan M. It has been a terrible week for us Aussies. I hope the saying it happens in 3's does not.

We are all still getting over Steve Irwin and now Peter Brock. Two great men who Australia owes a lot to.

It has been a sad week. <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> You say Peter Brock's family have agreed to a state funeral. Have you heard anything about Steve Irwin's family? The Discovery channel here in the USA have been playing tributes and his old shows. It just makes it so much sadder that his brilliance, energy and humor will be gone for ever.

I just read in the paper that family and friends said farewell to Steve Irwin with an intimate gathering and stories around a campfire in Australia, Saturday, on the grounds of Australia Zoo. Steve's father, Bob Irwin, said most of the private service was spent talking about him around a candlelit fire, because that is the way Steve would have wanted it.

A public memorial for fans is expected next week to be held in a 52,000 seat stadium. (from the Balt. Sun Papers 9/13/06)

Steve Irwin will be farwelled by the public at Australia Zoo next wednesday....It is what Steve would have wanted.

The State did offer a state funeral but The family said no because that is not what Steve would have wanted.
They were going to have the memorial service next tuesday but it would have clashed with Peter brocks State funeral.

His funeral will be in the same church my brother was married in.Its weird because Brocky is my brothers idol.So sad...

If you missed seeing Steve's memorial service, you can watch it online at: http://mp3.news.com.au/bcm/irwin-funeral.html

The Courier Mail (our Queensland newspaper) also has a flash online book presentation at: http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/extras/steve_irwin_tribute/index.htm
