After 50 years of no health insurance, I face insurance decisions. For the first time since leaving my parents' house, I will be receiving Medicare insurance on October 1st. I have no idea what choices to make, not even what my choices are. I think my choices are limited by where I live, but I can't seem to find out if that is true. Do I choose a medicare advantage plan...whatever those are....where I pay nothing?
Drug plan? I don't take any prescription drugs, use only herbs and alternative meds. Am I just paying out money for not much of anything? Do I have a choice?

Hi Jan! A lot of people I talk to are in the same situation as you, in that they do not know what decisions to make when it comes to their health insurance. I mean, there are so many options out there and that really says something, coming from somebody who now works in insurance marketing, who for so long has made a living selling insurance. My advice would be to talk to other people you know about the insurance company they do business with. Try and find out who is really reputable, and then contact them. Don't be afraid to ask questions - the more the better! If you deal with a rep who doesn't seem keen to help you with your questions, they're not worth doing business with. Talk to your family, your friends and anybody you know about the health insurance provider they're with, and of course check out the internet and the huge array of health insurance articles that are online. Compare policies and prices. Talk to an agent who really cares about your situation, and they will recommend the policy that meets your unique needs. All the best!
