Hi I am 28 years old and have been trying to conceive for 2 years, we have both been tested and we are both fine. The only other test that they haven't done yet is a laprascope to check for endometrosis. We have done Intrauterine insemination once, clomid, and intercourse every other day and a month of every day. We still have not conceived. My doctor has recommended a few more times of IUI, and then in 6 month if still not pregnant do the lapascope and try In-vitro. My husband and I are not ready to do in-vitro and the costs seem outrageous. Has anyone done in-vitro, how are the results? and costs? and emotional status while doing this? I am so frustrated because we are young and have unexplained infertility. Everyone around us is getting pregnant and I am utterly depressed. <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

[color:"blue"] If I were you, I would ditch the iui and go for the larascopie to check for endo. If you do have endo, which is a case for my infertility (and pain) they can 'clean out' the endo. It works for some people I guess. It'd be worth a try. Then continue iui if you can aford it. [/color]

go ahead and see if they can do the laparoscopy. i've had 3 done, and they are pretty easy to recover from. it will give you some answers too.

we didn't do in vitro fertilization (ivf) because i have a sucky uterine environment. also, we couldn't agree for a few years about it (i wanted to, he didn't; then we ended up spending the money we had for it on car repairs! yikes!). for us, it would have been around 10,000.00 including fertility drugs (not covered by insurance), sonograms (although my ob/gyn said he'd do the sonos for free as a gift- would save us about 1500.00 because they're done every other day, sometimes every day), bloodwork (done each time you have a sonogram), egg retrieval including hospitalization and anesthesia, embroyologist, lab, embryo transfer. if we wanted to do ICSI (intracytoplastic sperm injection) or assisted hatching, it would cost extra.

but i have problems when i use fertility drugs and am terrified to try them again. and now we're just getting too tired of it all.

i understand your feelings completely about seeing all your friends and family getting pregnant and leaving you behind. we are now the last couple without kids even at our workplaces. and it's sometimes hard. but we do have a lot more freedom than our friends. and i feel our marriage is better and stronger. we tried almost 10 years, and it's time to let go. but it's hard somedays.

try to focus on the positives when you start to feel down. it does help. i have one friend who has toddlers, and she calls me sometimes when the kids are fighting, biting or screaming to remind me to enjoy my peace and quiet. lol. it does help me remember that life is still good even though i can't have kids.

(((hugs)))

If the doc doesn't want to do a laparoscopy, he or she may not have any knowledge or understanding of the procedure, then you might have to find another doc who does. Some docs will do lap, some won't. If your uterus is not 'cleaned out' the iui will be pretty much useless.
