I love complex lyrics that really make me want to listen to the song to understand them. Some of my favourites include Queen's Innuendo and Bohemian Rhapsody, and Alanis Morissette's The Couch. This week's article also looks at Thank U by Morissette.

oooh. My all time favorite song lyrics are from the song "Love Minus Zero/No Limit" by Bob Dylan. Just the best song ever, I just love the lines "My love she speaks like silence without ideals or violence. She doesn't have to say she's faithful yet she's true like ice, like fire."

I love Bob Dylan's lyrics too and I find it amusingly ironic that his voice "hides" the depth of his lyrics. You have to listen really carefully. I love Things have changed in particular.

I'm not sure if I've heard that one or not (he has so many sometimes I just lose track of a few), which album is it on? Is it an old one or new? I'd like to see if I've got it in my collection so I can get it out and listen.

It's fairly new - it was part of the soundtrack for the movie Wonderboys. The video shows Dylan riding in a car with Michael Douglas, singing (or maybe he's muttering, and that's why Michael Douglas looks so uncomfortable )

I remember now Things Have Changed drawing me in when I watched Wonder Boys, but I never got the album--It's on Love and Theft right? That album has another great one-- Mississippi. I'll check out your lyrics links--thanks.
Sorry to hijack the thread here, I'm done fanatically ranting about Dylan.

I really love some of The Beatles quirkier songs like "Lucy in the sky with diamonds" and "I am the walrus"

Great article Elle! I think some of my favorite lyrics are "Change Your Mind" by Sister Hazel and "Ray of Light" by Madonna

My favorite lyrics are those from Stevie Wonder's "Ribbon In The Sky".

Hi! Ray of Light is a good one. And I think Ribbon in the Sky is so romantic.
This might be a bit silly, but I like "Always Look at the Bright Side of Life" from the Monty Python film. Those 8 words and the whistling always cheer me up.
Plus, if I start singing it, hubby's bound to join in --- so that's a jolly bit of fun right there!
//(^.^)\\ Health, good luck and happy days to all!

A few songs of Korn (Freak on a Leash + 4U + Falling Away From Me + Dirty + Beg For Me + Did My Time) gets to me on a personal level because it is like I wrote the lyrics. Also Rammstein songs does that to me too eventhough I do not speak German (i dont want to get the translation - i would however love to speak the language), they are so awesome that eventhough I do not speak their language I understand them anyway. Silent Warrior by Enigma is too a song that they lyrics got me. For the newer songs Take Me To Church by Hozier is one.

I also like Take Me to Church by Hozier. I also like Lips are Movin' by Meghan Trainor. It's like it was written just for someone I know :), like I should've written it for him.
