I am sympathetic to Al Gore's cause, At the same time, there is another inconvenient truth. This is the truth of 9/11 and the fact that we are better off with a Republican government as long as there are Muslim extremists whose goal it is to destroy the United States. These fanatics do not differentitate between our political parties. They would kill us all. George W. Bush has defended and continues to defend America. If Bin Laden and al Qaeda have such little regard for human life, they are certainly impervious to the effects of global warming.
I don't see where it's necessary to choose between military might and the environment. Many people can handle multiple tasks. Bush's record prior to 9/11 speaks for itself. We could start with the Department of Interior -- specifically his appointees Norton & Griles and move through many other choices that are blatantly anti-environment.
Just blame it on the party? There was a lot of bipartisan work done during the Clinton era for the environment. When Bush came in to office he actually put many of those bipartisan efforts on hold and revamped them to suit his purposes -- not those of the environment. Many of the achievements he likes to cite were actually things started/developed in the previous administration.
As for Al Queda ... if we just let Bush run rampant he'll manage to kill us off for them. He's managed to tick off the entire world with his dumb cowboy attitude and tactless comments. We used to be respected and envied in the global community. That's not the case any longer - unfortunately Al Queda hasn't gotten that memo yet.
