Any tips on taking care of skin post-surgery? I had pins put in my leg and bones rearranged and am going to spend quite a bit of time in a cast. I'm already having trouble with itching and dryness and I just have a splint/bandages right now--cast comes next week. I was told not to use powder because the wounds haven't healed.

Suggestions?

Are you wanting to take care of the skin around the site of the surgery? Or are you wanting an easy skin care regimen for your face during this time?

If it's for the area around the surgery you might want to try something like Aveeno with Cortisone cream. My daughter had casts for a long time and we always used something similar to this product and it seemed to help. You might also try MD Forte Replenish Hydrating Cream. It is a great product for post-skin procedures and sunburns. It is a little pricey though. It is available online and through doctor's offices so maybe if you found a doctor near your area that carried it you could get a sample to see if it works before buying it.

My SO picked up some Aveeno for sensitive skin. That stuff really works! I can only get at the top of my leg and my toes now--what I wouldn't give for a coat hanger or a ruler, it itches!--but that's better than nothing. They put some sort of thick, gooey stuff underneath all the padding when they casted my leg today. Guess we'll just see what it looks like when they change the cast out again.
