[color:"#487878"]I've always considered myself pro-life (in regards to ALL living beings, not just babies). I've also known since I was 13 or so that I didn't want to be a mother (and I've never liked children - even when I was a child). It wasn't until recently, though, that someone asked me how I could be pro-life and not want children. It had never occurred to me before that someone would find this to be a logical inconsistancy.

Now I don't mean to debate the merits of being pro-life or pro-choice or anything like that... I know I'm in the minority here and I am not trying to start a fight. (In fact I'm sure I'll probably regret revealing this about myself as sure as I hit "post"...) but I'm just wondering if you people also see these two held beliefs to be in competition with one another. I know this has been discussed elsewhere but I haven't seen anything about it here - and you're such a nice group of people I thought I'd throw it out there for contemplation and conversation.

I'm pro-choice but I don't think there's a contradiction between being pro-life and not wanting children. I guess that just means if you accidentally got pregnant you would give the child up for adoption?

Now if you were anti-birth control and didn't want children, that would be difficult...

I'm pro-choice, though i can understand the principles behind being pro-life. I don't see that there's a conflict between being pro-life and childfree, unless you actually become pregnant accidentally. Would you have the child adopted if that happened?
I guess that's the true test of anyone's beliefs; when they are faced with the situation themselves, and have to make a decision that will affect them personally.
I'm doing all i can to avoid pregnancy (mirena coil, 99.5%) and so would hope never to have my pro-choice stance tested.

It makes perfect sense to be childfree and pro-life.

I believe a life is a life from the very moment of conception, which explains why I'm pro-life. I'm also childfree, and I totally believe birth control is your friend. If you happen to get pregnant, you can always give the child up for adoption. Think of how many women actually do want to get pregnant and can't do it.

Just my .02, of course. I totally respect everybody else's opinion.

We just have to do everything in our power to avoid accidental pregnancy because I'd pretty much be screwed. Hubby says he doesn't think he could bear to watch me go through pregnancy for 9 months and then give the baby to someone else who might turn out to be a bad parent, even though a child would most certainly ruin our marriage and take our lives in a direction neither of us want to go in. I told him he could push me down the stairs or something.. but that would kind of defeat the whole "pro-life" principle, I would think (o;.
