Does anyone have experience with Mt. Goat fiber? The fiber I have is pretty soft, lots of long white guard hairs. I'm wondering if I should card it with some wool, comb it alone, etc. I'm paranoid that I'll ruin it through my ignorance.

Thanks!

I dont have experience at all.
But I would spin according to its individual properties. Is it long or short? If it is fairly long mohair might be a nice compliment. Is it slick? It might need a higher twist. Just throwing out some ideas.
But how in the world did you score mountain goat?
I was at the zoo last weekend and saw a nice pile of lion sheddings just lying there - screaming to be spun into the wildest yarn yet.
I sincerely doubt I could have gotten the zoo keepers to "harvest" it for me!

I've thought of the zoo, also. All that fiber, just waiting around...
I got the mt. goat from a guy I work with. He harvested it after a transplant of wild Mt. Goats in Oregon. Cool, huh!
I have approx. a laundry basket full. It's incredibly dirty, but it washes!
The fiber is off white, very fine, and pretty soft. It's not incredibly soft like cashmere, but I think it will make a really nice hat. I'm thinking I'll mix it with wool to make it stretch farther.
Whaddya think?

Sample sample sample.
I agree blending the wool might be a good idea. But its really tempting to think of something made with 100% mt goat too. Try spinning a few yards of each and see how it all comes together <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
