What's your favorite dessert recipe that has been handed down through your family?

Mine is a recipe for streudel. I make the dough from scratch and add jam, chopped apples, raisins, walnuts, cinnamon & sugar, and a squeeze of lemon.

You just can't not eat it up!!

My favorite would have to be my grandmother's Scotch Cake. It is a very dense, very chocolatly cake with a boiled chocolate icing mixed with nuts and coconut. It has no Scotch in it, so I'm not sure where it got it's name. My grandmother baked this for every holiday and now that she's gone, I carry on her tradition. My husband loves it and so I bake it for him between holidays and just baked it day before yesterday. It's almost gone already.

Apple dumplings. I don't know where the recipe originated, but my mom passed it down to me, and if I knew when I was going to die, I would make sure it was the last thing I ever ate. They are THAT good.

Without a doubt, Sweet Potato Pie. Once just a Thanksgiving treat, we gobble it up year round. Made with loads of sweet potatoes or yams, butter, brown and white sugar, cream, nutmeg, cinnamon and an ultra flaky piecrust.

Another favorite recipe handed down from my grandmother is Homemade yeast Rolls. They're a favorite around our house and oh, the aroma when they're baking!

my favorite was something my great grandma called "Stickies".
Sort of like a verrry plain non-cinnamoned roll sort of thing, made from something similar to a thick, sweetened pie crust.
Rolled & filled with only butter & vanilla-flavored sugar, sprinkled with more vanilla flavored sugar, these things were transcendent!

Boiled Cake. Sort of a Depression Era coffee/bundt cake made with dark brown sugar, raisins and nuts. All of the ingredients are cooked together on the stove before it's baked. Great with coffee.

Waffle cookies - my grandmother is from Belgium and it's an old family recipe. There's a bit of legend attached to them regarding true love

Could you list this recipe? I've been looking to try to make streudel but the recipe I have is with filo dough. It didn't come out when I tried it. Thanks. Vicky

My favorite is Baked Alaska. You make a Oreo cookie crust. Add any flavor ice cream you like (we use neopolitan). Lastly add meringue and torch (or throw in the oven ever so briefly). YUMMY!

Small pieces of deep fried dough and then you sprinkle powdered sugar over the top while they are still incredibly hot, the sugar will melt on it and it is so so good. My grandma would always get burned a little though.
