Is it just me or is time sprinting faster than ever? This year has zoomed. I know a lot of my friends feel the same & are wondering whether the Earth is getting ready for a major shift in vibration in 2012. What do you think?

Is time moving faster?

Lauren,

Now that a year is almost 1/40th of my life, it does seem to go by faster. I don't mind really, as it moves us past the painful bits faster and brings the good stuff more expediently.

Rae, that's very insightful. I like that attitude a whole lot better than bemoaning how fleeting life is. Almost 40- still a spring chicken, but a whole lot wiser than we once were !

The earthquake shook the earth and we are rotating a tiny bit faster. Either the Sumatran quake or the one that caused the tsunami. I found out about this through some astronomy news last year. When we were little, time went by so slowwwww. It has been zooming by now for 30 years. We talk about this often, so it must be true.

I've always thought that time seems to be going faster the more children I have.

I get so caught up in their events, practices, problems, etc; that by the time I look around - it's a whole 'nother season!

Right now we're trying to do Michael's kayaking, Jordan's gymnastics, both of their modeling competitions, and Seth is old enough to start tiny tots tee-ball. Summer is going to kill me! ACK

It's relative....It goes sooooooo slowly when you're waiting for an important result of any kind - but that great birthday party organised for you, goes by in a flash, and is over all too soon....

"Time" as measured by scientists and the big-brained Clever-bods may be behaving in a different way, due to spatial shift patterns imperceptible to the ordinary eye (that's us, by the way - !!) but Time as we know it, is moving differently, to us, because of a shift in our consciousness....

As a child, the only things we had to fill our time was to behave like a child... we had no responsibilities,no duties, no obligations.... and a lot of what we saw filled us with awe and wonder.... so growing up and learning, was a gradual and lengthy process.... and generally speaking (and it is very general...I'm not going into individual personal experiences and memory here, I'm just talking about the state of Being a Child) we were constantly absorbing new stuff, and committing New things to Memory....

The older you get, the more you know. And the more you know, the more blas life becomes, and the more you take for granted.... the days pass, because they are filled with getting up, following a generally similar routine, going to work, yah-deh-yah, doing some shopping,,passing the time of day with friends, colleagues and fellow mothers maybe, then back home, dinner, cook, wash, clean, tidy up, watch tv put kids to bed, yah-deh-yah-deh-yah again.....

Monotony destroys Magic.
Monotony numbs the brain, and habit makes us forget spontaneity....

When was the last time you examined a snowflake, in the winter, with a magnifying glass....? Or looked at the delicate intricacies of a newly formed leaf? Its transparency and exactness, its fine tracery and lacework? And all of it ALIVE!
When was the last time you looked - really looked - at what an amazing creature a snail is....? Or gazed in wonder at how all the buttercups on one stem were all the same, yet amazingly different?? the high-gloss of the brilliant yellow petals, the slim fragility of the brittle stem....
And aren't earthworms incredible - ??
And do you realize that some of the stars you gaze at every night, may not actually really be there? Their light has taken so long to reach you, that they've actually already ceased to exist, even though you can still see their twinkle....

Chronological time, is what we use to mark off the days of the year...Birthdays, anniversaries, dental appointments and travel timetables....

Psychological time is how we measure memories, desires and hopes for the future.... they are merely instances in the mind we either 'look back on' or 'look forward to'....
The psychological time of the Future, exists entirely due to our psychological attachment to the Past.... nothing about the future is original and unexplored, because it is based on our appraisal of what was, and is....

And Time, as a child, had no meaning at all.....What you don't know, you assume, or make up....
I still remember lying in the grass in my grandad's garden, gazing up at a blue sky, trying to memorise the shapes of clouds, so that I would recognise them again in a year's time..... I had no idea, you see, of what clouds actually were, and that they are as ephemeral as thoughts themselves.....

So the very best thing we can do, to slow Time down, is to think more as a child thinks....to occasionally forget the bills we have to pay, the responsibilities we have accumulated, the duties we wear round our shoulders like a leaden cloak...

I remember this snippet I read once:

"Man is always looking for Miracles.
His constant quest for a breathtaking phenomenon, has enabled and driven him to forge ahead with his existence, and reach for the stars....

The Miracles of modern science and technology have done much to advance the progress of man upon this planet, and has secured him a place in eternity, through pioneering work producing equipment enabling us to stumble upon amazing discoveries.

However, all the modern science and technology now available to us, on this planet, even accumulatively, putting together every single piece of data and scientific wizzadry - is still incapapable of producing, from scratch, a single blade of grass.

So if you want a Miracle in this day and age, therefore, there is much to be said for gazing at a blade of grass."

Find yourself a spot on the lawn, where a daisy is nestling among the blades of grass, lie down, and look at it.

Take all the time you want.

Great post Alexandra- very wise. I think time is very much dependent on the 'eyes of the beholder'. I went to Chelsea Flower Show last Thursday & time did an interesting wiggle. We arrived early & wandered around leisurely just drinking it all in for what seemed like hours & hours. When we stopped for a cuppa we both thought we'd spent all morning- it was only 10.30am. Then it got crowded & the afternoon stormed past. Strange that we both experience time in the same way. I wonder if time goes faster in crowds...and whether the members of a crowd or group are experiencing the same feeling?

Rae- I think the same. The message I had before was that I would have two years of turmoil- accurate enough 18 months in- but the last 6 months have zipped by so fast I reckon I can survive the next half year.
